1. When building your brand, think of it as a person.
As the human race we are a collection of individuals whose character is made up of beliefs, values and purposes that define who we are and who we connect with. Our personality and upbringing determines how we behave in different situations, how we dress and what we say. This is the same when you're building a brand it's vital to have that understanding. Each brand will be different and playing to our business strengths and building from that is important. Think about what makes you different from all the other brands you are competing with and how do you connect?
2. Provide value – exceed their expectations.
Most companies over sell their product to get the sale and sadly many customers feel that they didn't get what they expected. One of my early business mentors taught me to "Under sell and exceed expectations." This can be as simple as providing better customer service and follow ups. Providing on-going value leads better brand recognition. this results in becoming the "go-to" person or business in your field.
3. Design and Content
Good design plays an integral role in creating a strong brand and thats where a visually attractive website is the next step to building a strong brand, that means putting a little bit of money into it. They say content is King, and even more so today. People have short intention spans and you have 30 seconds or less to grab their attention. Massive amounts of content and copy are no longer the go, short, sharp and smart message the resonate with people is the way to go.
